College Park Boy's Club Founded in 1952 as the Hollywood Hornets the organization change its name in 1955 to College Park Boys Club and held its first opening day celebration. By 1960 there were 600 members participating in basketball alone. In 1964 the group formally adopted the commitment to serve boys regardless of color.
Old fashioned games were part of the day's event during this Saturday of Heritage Weekend. The event took place at College Park Community Center

Around 1935, these boys were photographed in their Sunday best, which included knickerbockers. “They’re wearing knockers,” commented Leonard Smith, who grew up in the era, upon seeing this photograph. “You were dressed up then.” In the rear is Henry “Buck” Johnson, and in the front row, far right, is Charles Dory. Dory as a teen was a star basketball player for Lakeland High School and went on to work as a cook for the railroad. He was also a deacon of the First Baptist Church of College Park.
